More Democrat Symbolism Over Substance

Tennessee Democrat Representative Mike Stewart wants to
require background checks for private gun sales. He even brought a prop to class today, an AR-15 style rifle. Stewart claimed to have purchased the rifle outside in Legislative Plaza. If so, that was obviously a setup, so I don't care if he bought it outside the capital or behind a warehouse in the bad part of town.

This is a classic example of Democrats pushing worthless legislation that accomplishes nothing other than they can be happy with themselves and pat themselves on the back. After all, it sounds good, doesn't it?

This is like banning guns in restaurants, bars, parks or anyplace else. The law abiding folks, like NRA members and other concealed carry permit holders, will indeed do the required checks before selling a firearm in a private sale, just as they won't take their guns into locations where they are not allowed.

But the bad guys won't be doing so. They'll still buy and sell guns on the black market, and will take their guns anywhere they damn well please, where they could shoot unarmed law-abiding citizens like fish in a barrel. Heroin, meth, crack and Oxycontin without a prescription are also illegal. As is rape and murder. How's that working out?

So whenever Democrats want to do something that sounds good, take a closer look and use some common sense. There's a good chance it is just symbolism over substance.
